The Gulf side of Florida doesn’t got much but what they do have going for them is the Tampa Bay Ray’s winning record, lots of good fishing and Tayler Brothers one of Florida’s brightest stars to hit the junior ranks.  Starting 2010 ASP Pro Junior year with a semi final result, Tayler is on track to push it to the end.
 
The small town of Sarasota is what he calls home, where the Snook run straight through the channel.  Tayler’s cast is as lethal as his forehand throw-tail so when he is not his Maverick Mirage HPX 15v, you can find him blasting airs around North America working on results or out at New Smyrna Inlet, a place he call his second home.

Looking forward to a lot more to come from this young energetic ripper from as he follows the footsteps of some of surfing’s greats as a next generation Gulf surfer.

Rip Curl catches up with their newest addition and Florida bread Junior Tayler Brothers.

With the start of the ASP North America Pro Junior series heading to Florida it was a good time for us to catch up with Rip Curl’s newest young talent. Tayler has spent the off season getting his Orion Surfboards dialed, his forehand tail-throw down pat, and spending a bit of time fishing pole in hand. Sounds like a nice little break from the constant travel and stress of the ASP year. With Tayler new to the Rip Curl Family we wanted to see just what he is all about these days:

Rip Curl: Where are you from and whats it like growing up in a place like that?
Tayler Brothers: I’m from Osprey Florida on the Gulf coast. It is defiantly weird being a surfer growing on the Gulf cause there is no waves, all you can do is fish.

Ri p Curl: Who has influenced you as a surfer?
Tayler Brothers: I would say my biggest influences are the Hobgood’s for sure as they are from my second home (Satellite Beach) and would watch them everyday when I was on the east coast. The Lopez’s were a big influence being from the Gulf as well but I would say (Kelly) Slater was most influential to everyone in Florida. He really led the way for everyone over here.

Rip Curl: What are your other hobbies?
Tayler Brothers: I like to fish, I go nearly everyday when I am home. I wake up surf, hope on the boat for a midmorning fish, and then back out for a second surf. Going duck hunting is fun, but I don’t really hunt too much. Ill play some tennis now and then, that is always fun.

Rip Curl: What are your plans for the 2010 year?
Tayler Brothers: I want to get it done in the Pro Junior series here in North America this year. I would say a big goal of mine is to make Worlds this year. I am on good boards and know it is there for the taking. Other than comps I am going to be shooting and surfing with the boys when I’m home and I wanna get on a few Search Trips.
