The quiet coastal fishing town of Peniche staked its claim as Europe's ultimate surfing destination during the 2011 Rip Curl Pro Portugal, with the infamous Supertubos cranking into action for three unforgettable days of perfect waves.
The ASP's elite claimed the surf as the best of the year, weaving their way through wavepool-like barrels left and right in the third-to-last contest of the season.
Owen Wright threatened, Kelly Slater was dominant, Gabriel Medina impressed and John John Florence stood tall, but it was Brazil's Adriano de Souza that would win it all to claim the coveted title.
